Buffalo police have announced that a man is currently facing numerous charges in connection with an alleged kidnapping that transpired in the aftermath of a gunshot at an 11U football game on Sunday.
During a press conference on Monday, the police reported that they responded to a call from a man with a pistol on the first block of Moselle Street at approximately 11 a.m. However, no suspect matching the description was identified.
Rashaan Mallory, 29, is alleged to have taken a woman against her will at gunpoint and compelled her to drive to the football field off of Koons Avenue with another victim in the vehicle, according to police.
Upon their arrival at the field, where the GR8 Elite Ducks were playing the Flower City Panthers, a Rochester-based team, Mallory allegedly accompanied them through the parking lot before encountering another woman and stealing her cellphone.
According to the police, he subsequently encountered an additional individual and directed him to surrender his chain. Mallory is accused of attempting to discharge his firearm; however, it was suspected that he misfired. Mallory allegedly shot the 31-year-old Rochester instructor twice, once in the right shin and once in the left foot, as he was walking away from the scene.
A man who was present at the game described the scenario after hearing gunshots.
“He described a scene in which a number of coaches and parents acted quickly, grabbing children they did not know, transporting them to the bushes, and ensuring that everything was cool.” “I actually fixed my gaze on the shooter at that moment; I had observed him with his arm extended and the gun in his hand.” I was not yet aware of the specifics of the situation. We sought refuge in the tracks, and as I previously mentioned, instructors were escorting children to safety.
Mallory is purported to have subsequently departed the scene.
Police responded to the report of a gunshot at the football field at approximately 11:35 a.m. Concurrently, Mallory’s vehicle was observed on Goodyear Avenue. According to law enforcement, he refused to comply with traffic stop instructions and instead turned north on Goodyear before colliding with a street sign at Goodyear and Sycamore.
The impact site yielded a loaded 9mm semiautomatic gun. The individual in question was apprehended without an additional incident.
The following charges were brought against Mallory, who is currently on parole, according to the police:
- Second-degree attempted homicide
- Second-degree kidnapping first-degree assault first-degree robbery (three offenses)
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds first-degree unlawful imprisonment
- Second-degree hostile
- Fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 20. The investigation is still ongoing.
