Ashford Man Admits Guilt in 2022 Dothan Murder, Sentenced to 40 Years

Mekhi Telfair of Ashford, who pleaded guilty and received a 40-year prison sentence for the murder of Dothan businessman Robert Blount in 2022, is responsible. Koston McWaters, who is still awaiting trial, was accused alongside Telfair, who was initially facing the death penalty.

After a contentious dispute between Blount and Telfair during a college football watch party over Labor Day weekend in 2022, the murder took place. Investigators allege that Blount employed a racial epithet during a telephone conversation with his fiancée, which Telfair overheard.

Before Telfair allegedly requested that McWaters drop him off near Blount’s residence, the two engaged in a textual argument. Telfair subsequently entered Blount’s residence and fatally shot him with a shotgun, according to the police.

As his trial advances, McWaters will be required to attend a status hearing on October 29.
