Investigation underway for alleged abduction at Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga

A man from Tallapoosa County was apprehended on Wednesday for making a menacing phone call to the federal Central Alabama Veterans Medical Center in Montgomery. The facility was placed on isolation as a result of the call.

The crisis hotline contact was received by the center at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

In a written statement, the agency stated that special agents from the State Bureau of Investigation of ALEA responded to aid in the search for the suspect and the quarantine.

Michael Barnett, 61, was apprehended at his residence in Camp Hill following an additional investigation.

In addition to rendering false alarms to a hospital, he has been charged with making terroristic threats.

Barnett was incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail on a $18,000 surety. According to online records, he was still in custody as of Thursday morning.

The city of Montgomery issued a statement on Wednesday indicating that no one was injured and that the city police were providing assistance with the investigation.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office will receive the findings.
