Nationwide Warning Issued as Baby Powder Recall Announced

Hundreds of bottles of Dynacare baby powder are being recalled nationwide due to the possibility of asbestos contamination.

Dynarex Corporation has recently issued a recall for its baby powder. The recall includes 62 cases of baby powder produced under batch number B051. These products were distributed to various states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin. In addition to physical stores, the affected baby powder was also sold online through Amazon.com.

According to a news release by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is commonly found near talc, a key ingredient in various cosmetic products. Dynarex, a company involved in a recent recall, explained that if talc is not mined carefully or purified adequately, it could potentially be contaminated with asbestos.

According to a news release, the recall happened when the FDA conducted a routine sampling program and discovered that the finished products were contaminated with asbestos. As a result, the company has stopped distributing the product and is currently conducting an investigation to determine the source of the talc contamination.

Long-term exposure to asbestos minerals can result in various diseases, such as asbestosis, pleural disease, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Mesothelioma, in particular, is a form of lung cancer that can manifest many years after being exposed to asbestos, as highlighted by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).

According to the ATSDR, asbestos can still be found in some old homes and buildings, in addition to being occasionally present in minerals like talc. Breathing in tiny asbestos fibers in the air is how people are exposed to this hazardous substance, even though these fibers are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

The baby powder that has been recalled comes in 14-ounce plastic bottles and has an expiration date of December 28, 2026. You can find the expiration date listed on the bottom of the bottle. It’s important to note that there have been no reported illnesses or adverse events associated with the recalled baby powder.

If you have purchased the recalled items, please stop using them right away and return them for a full refund, as stated in the company’s release. If you have any questions about the recall, you can reach out to Dynarex Corporation at 888-396-2739 or 845-365-8200 between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST. Alternatively, you can send an email to recall@dynarex.com for further inquiries.

The company emphasized in its statement that it urges healthcare professionals and consumers to report any negative effects to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program. You can easily submit the necessary forms to the program online by following this link.
