A Tuscaloosa woman has received a federal prison sentence for her involvement in the possession and distribution of methamphetamine in Elmore County.
Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin P. Davidson announced on Monday that Teaira Nishara Robbins, 30, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by a federal judge.
According to court records and statements made in open court, it has been confirmed that on December 18, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies witnessed a vehicle entering the parking lot of a closed business in Elmore County.
According to officials, the site is situated less than a mile away from three state correctional facilities. The area has a notorious reputation for being involved in the smuggling of illegal drugs into the nearby prisons.
Two people exited the vehicle and placed what seemed to be bags into the trunk of the car. The deputies approached the occupants of the vehicle and identified Robbins as the driver. The deputies proceeded to search the vehicle and discovered packages of marijuana and methamphetamine in the trunk, along with other prohibited items.
In January 2024, during her plea hearing, Robbins confessed to possessing methamphetamine and having the intention to distribute it.
State charges are pending for the other individuals involved in the investigation, according to federal authorities.
After serving her 87-month prison sentence, Robbins will be under supervised release for a period of three years. It’s important to note that the federal system does not have parole.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the investigation of the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Patrick Lamb leading the prosecution.
