A manhunt is underway for the person accused of shooting a Texas police chief.

The Texas Rangers, along with various local law enforcement organizations, are looking for Seth Altman, age 33.

Altman may have shot Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant late Thursday night.

According to investigators, Altman bolted out the back door as Plant and another officer were serving an arrest warrant for a burglary. He then opened fire, striking the police chief before he fled the area.

A hospital in Lubbock, Texas, received Plant, who is now in stable condition.

We have served Altman with an arrest warrant for attempted capital murder.

Altman stands 6 feet and 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds. We last spotted him wearing a blue shirt and jeans.

Officials fear he is armed and dangerous. Anyone who comes into contact with Altman should avoid approaching him and call 911 immediately.

Memphis is located in the southeastern Texas Panhandle, approximately 130 miles northeast of Lubbock and 275 miles northwest of Dallas. It has a population of approximately 2,000.
