A Bakersfield, California man could face life in jail for allegedly distributing enormous amounts of cocaine in Grundy County. Tirath Singh, 28, was charged with manufacturing and delivering more than 900 grams of heroin and cocaine, all super class X crimes, as well as unlawful possession of more than 900 grams of heroin and cocaine, both class one felonies.
According to the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office, Singh is suspected of possessing more than 900 grams of cocaine and heroin with the intent to deliver at the Romines Truck Stop on Route 47 in Morris early Thursday morning.
Prosecutors also stated that Singh’s semi-truck was subjected to a safety inspection after being parked in the truck stop’s parking area for more than 16 hours. During the inquiry, Singh consented to a search of the vehicle, and more than 360 pounds (0.16 t) of cocaine and approximately 90 pounds (40 kilograms) of heroin were seized.
The drugs were allegedly discovered in the cab and trailer. The pills have an estimated street value of more than $11 million. The Illinois State Police commented on Facebook about the amount of drugs discovered but provided no additional information about the case. Singh was taken to the Grundy County Jail and denied pretrial release. If convicted of the class X felony, Singh faces 15 to 60 years in jail.
