Central Indiana Thunderstorm Warning: Strong Winds Expected To Threaten Southeast By Monday Evening

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to hit southeastern Indiana on Monday, with destructive winds offering the greatest threat.

According to the US National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered showers and isolated storms will occur throughout the day on April 14, particularly in the afternoon and evening. The highest danger area is southeast of Indianapolis, including locations around Columbus, Greensburg, and Richmond. Storms are predicted to remain isolated, although they may produce wind gusts of more than 60 mph.

Meteorologists have classified the region as a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) on the Storm Prediction Center’s severe weather scale. Uncertainty exists about the quantity of instability available to facilitate broad storm development. However, forecasters advise homeowners to remain weather-aware in case conditions worsen.

The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor objects, prepare for sudden gusts, and monitor notifications throughout the day. The National Weather Service recommends having a severe weather plan in place and staying attentive to local updates as timing and intensity may change.

This storm threat comes as temperatures climb across the Midwest, boosting the chance of active spring weather patterns in Indiana until mid-April.
