Police: Cook County Man Arrested After Brief Chase And Loaded Gun Recovered

An 18-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested Friday night in Palatine after police say he evaded authorities and discarded a loaded firearm.

Around 8:10 p.m., Palatine officers were patrolling the 1800-1900 block of North Green Lane when they came upon Kevin Antonio.

According to police, Antonio was banned from entering a housing complex in the vicinity.

When officers approached, Antonio allegedly fled—first on a bicycle, then on foot.

During the chase, investigators say Antonio pulled a revolver from his waistband and threw it over a fence in the 1700 block of Clear Creek Bay. Police later found the loaded handgun.

The brief pursuit concluded in the 1900 block of North Baldwin Road when Antonio was apprehended. He’s facing three charges:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (loaded firearm), a Class 4 felony
  • Resisting or obstructing a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Criminal trespass to property, a Class B misdemeanor

Antonio appeared for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago on Saturday and was released pending his next court date, which is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
