The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for eastern West Virginia, northern and central Virginia, and sections of Maryland, citing expected high winds and potentially hazardous conditions overnight.
A wind advisory is in force from 8 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m.
Strong winds in the northern and central Blue Ridge, including higher altitudes in Augusta and Rockingham counties, could cause travel issues and minor damage on Friday.
Thursday’s weather will bring widespread showers, especially after 1 p.m., with highs of 67 degrees. Winds from the southwest will be approximately 10 mph (ca. 16 km/h), with gusts reaching 21 mph (ca. 34 km/h).
Rainfall is forecast to vary from a tenth to a quarter of an inch.
As the evening continues, sporadic showers will end before 7 p.m., and skies will begin to clear. Winds will increase dramatically, shifting from the northwest at 15 to 23 mph (ca. 37 km/h), with gusts reaching 39 mph (ca. 63 km/h).

Drivers, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution on the road, especially on elevated highways and bridges where crosswinds may make passage hazardous.
