Two individuals faced arraignment on Friday for their involvement in a series of thefts in Orleans and Niagara counties in New York.
Paul Rutherford Jr., aged 51, and Cori Rutherford, aged 27, allegedly committed the theft of a trailer from Lake Shore Metals in Ridgeway in February. According to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, they immediately transported the trailer to North Carolina on the same day they stole it, and managed to sell it for a mere $4,000, despite its value being over $102,000.
Other individuals were also involved in the scheme to steal the trailer, although their identities have not been disclosed by investigators.
Paul Rutherford faced allegations of stealing various items, including a farm truck from Root Brother’s Farm in Barre, another farm truck from the Town of Newfane, diesel fuel, pumps, hoses, and equipment from Grow Mark FS Inc. in Ridgeway, and a hydraulic hammer in Lockport.
According to investigators, Paul has been involved in a series of thefts since January, amounting to approximately $200,000 worth of stolen property. As a result, he is currently facing eight criminal cases, with the potential for additional charges.

- two counts, third-degree grand larceny
- third-degree burglary
- fourth-degree criminal mischief
Cori Rutherford faced charges of second-degree grand larceny and was subsequently released on his own recognizance.
