A woman in Livingston County is facing accusations of stealing $21,000 in SNAP benefits over a span of two and a half years.
Monique Charvenka, a 36-year-old resident of Lima, has been charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny. According to the Livingston County sheriff’s deputies, she intentionally submitted five fraudulent SNAP benefit applications to the county’s Department of Social Services. Furthermore, she neglected to inform the department about changes in her employment and household income.
In July 2024, deputies initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of Charvenka on Monday of last week. She stands accused of embezzling benefits from September 2019 to April 2022. Consequently, Charvenka was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Livingston County Jail.
