Woman from Niagara Falls Receives Sentencing in Case Involving Her Mother’s Fentanyl Overdose Death

A 31-year-old woman from Niagara Falls pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl, resulting in her mother’s tragic overdose. Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny sentenced Davis to time served and three years of probation.

Ranique Davis, 31, from Niagara Falls, NY, has been sentenced to time served and three years’ probation by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. Davis was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute fentanyl, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross.

On April 22, 2021, a distress call was made to the Lockport Police and Fire Departments regarding a South Street residence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson, who oversaw the case, revealed that upon arrival, first responders discovered Davis’s mother and stepfather in an unconscious and unresponsive state, resulting from fentanyl overdoses. While Davis’s stepfather was successfully revived with Narcan, Davis’s mother, unfortunately, could not be saved and was pronounced deceased. The cause of death was determined to be acute fentanyl intoxication.

Earlier that evening, Davis had been in communication with her stepfather via cell phone, where they agreed upon the exchange of blue Percocet pills. Acting on this agreement, Davis and two co-conspirators drove to the South Street residence, where they sold Davis’s stepfather four counterfeit Percocet pills sourced from the conspirators. Tragically, these pills contained fentanyl unbeknownst to the buyers. Shortly after ingesting the pills, both Davis’s stepfather and mother lost consciousness.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, and the Lockport Police department, headed by Chief Steven Abbott, conducted an investigation that resulted in the sentencing.
