In the early hours of Sunday, September 1st, 2024, 44-year-old Kristi L. McGrew of Newfane was arrested by Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a felony charge.

The arrest came after a traffic stop on Coomer Road, initiated in response to a traffic complaint received by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy W. Strehlow, who responded to the call, found the reported vehicle in the 3700 block of Coomer Road at approximately 12:08 AM.

Deputy Strehlow noticed several traffic violations and decided to pull over the driver. As the investigation unfolded, McGrew had to undergo Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which ultimately resulted in her arrest.

The charges she now faces include Endangering the Welfare of a Child, as there was a 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle during the incident. In addition, McGrew is also charged with Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and several other violations of Vehicle and Traffic Law.
