Renowned artist Nall Hollis, from Troy, has sadly passed away at the age of 76, as confirmed by social media posts from friends. The Nall Hollis foundation also announced the news of his passing.
Nall, also known as Hollis, was a highly acclaimed artist who showcased his talents in various mediums such as etchings, graphite, oil paint, watercolor, textile, sterling silver, porcelain, found objects, and wood. His exceptional artworks have been displayed worldwide, including notable exhibitions at the Mobile Museum of Art, Miami Dade College, Menton Museum of Art in France, The Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, Italy, and The National Arts Club in New York City.
After graduating from the University of Alabama, Hollis ventured abroad in 1971 to pursue his artistic studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Following his time in France, he made his way back to Alabama to share his knowledge and passion as a teacher at UA. Additionally, he had the privilege of serving as an artist-in-residence at Troy University for two semesters. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was bestowed with a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the university.
Troy University has honored Hollis with a museum that bears his name, showcasing his most significant creations. The NALL Museum, located in the International Arts Center on the university campus, features collections such as “Alice in Wonderland” and “MossaNall Dialogues” for visitors to appreciate and admire.
According to Hawkins, Nall had a unique ability to envision things that did not exist yet. However, he also possessed the artistic talent to bring his ideas to life through his artworks, making the world a more beautiful place. The Troy University community and Hawkins’ personal family held Nall in high regard, considering him an essential member. Hawkins further stated that Nall would be remembered as one of the greatest artists in America.

In 1997, Hollis achieved global recognition when CNN and The Associated Press covered his extravagant party in Vence, France. The celebration marked the opening of the NALL Art Association (Nature Art and Life League) in the beautiful French Riviera. Renowned personalities such as Ringo Starr, Prince Albert of Monaco, and actress Candice Bergen graced the event with their presence, adding to its glamorous allure.
The family has not yet revealed the details of the funeral arrangements.
