A former employee from a Tallassee business is facing charges of first-degree theft from the company.

On September 7th, the Tallassee Police Department captured Charles Weston Isbell, a 60-year-old resident of Tallassee. He has been charged with first-degree theft. Detective Michael Anderson from the Tallassee Police Department revealed that the amount stolen from River Region Roofing falls just short of $33,500.

The theft is believed to have commenced around September 2023. The Tallassee Police Department initiated an investigation in June after receiving a report from the business.

“It all began with an internal audit,” Anderson explained. “There are allegations that he manipulated contract numbers in order to secure a higher commission. Additionally, he failed to make a cash deposit for one particular job, which constituted the major part of the issue.”

Anderson mentioned that the cash transaction had also compelled the business to bear the expenses for the materials and labor utilized in the project.

A previous employee of the company is currently facing a serious charge of felony computer tampering.

On September 7, Kassie Stewart, a 37-year-old resident of Birmingham, was also taken into custody.

According to Anderson, the woman is accused of using another employee’s credentials to enter the company’s computer system and gather information about its customers.

Isbell and Stewart were both taken to the Elmore County Jail. Isbell managed to secure his release by posting a $30,000 bond, while Stewart was able to do the same by posting a $15,000 bond.
