The Central Alabama Veterans Medical Center in Montgomery received threatening phone calls to its crisis hotline on Wednesday, September 18, at around 10:30 a.m. In response, Special Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency were called in to assist with the lockdown and search for the suspect. After conducting further investigations, law enforcement officials apprehended Michael Barnett, 61, at his Camp Hill residence.
Barnett has been charged with issuing false alarms to a hospital and making terroristic threats. When taken into custody, he posted a $18,000 bond and was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. As a result, the lockdown at the Central Alabama Veterans Medical Center has been lifted.
