Authorities in Orleans County have taken a 14-year-old student from the Albion School District into custody on Sunday. The student stands accused of making a terroristic threat on social media.
Investigators have reported that the threat was made over a week ago, in a Snapchat post exchanged during a conversation with peers.
The teenager has been charged by prosecutors with Making a Terroristic Threat, which is considered a Class D Felony.
The Sheriff’s Chief Deputy explained that due to the limitations imposed by NYS law, the student was allowed to go home with their parents and given an appearance ticket.
Authorities have stated that they are currently in communication with the Albion School District to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
Parents are also encouraged to have open conversations with their children about the gravity of threats and the significance of promptly reporting any behavior that raises concerns.
